WHY Persons with Disabilities (PWDs)?
- Disability evokes negative perceptions and discrimination in many societies. Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) often face societal barriers and are largely excluded from education, sports, community life and employment. This deprives them of opportunities essential to their social and economic development, health, and well-being.
- PwDs are mostly considered as dependent and incapable, thus fostering inactivity which often causes them to experience restricted mobility beyond the cause of their disability. Historically, PwDs in India have been neglected and there are numerous gaps within the system that disallow these individuals to be truly included within the very communities where they live.
- India has close to 3 crore PwDs of whom around 1.3 crore are employable. However, only 34 lakh PwDs have been employed across organised, unorganised sectors, government-led schemes or are self-employed. When PwD have access to decent work, it brings considerable economic advantages. The International Labour Organization (ILO) estimates that including PwD in the workforce can have a positive impact of about 3 to 7 percent of the GDP. Thus, more PwDs entering the workforce will not only ensure the principle of “Leaving No One Behind” of SDGs 2030 but will also make important contributions to economic development

Other Programs under JIVICA
LMV Training Programme
The LMV Training Programme, part of Kshamata Innovation Foundation’s flagship Vocational Training Project – JIVICA, aims to empower women by providing them with the skills to become Light Motor Vehicle (LMV) drivers. Conducted in Malleswaram, Bangalore, this program successfully trained 13 women, enhancing their employment opportunities and supporting their families. Delivered by expert trainers in Kannada, the course included both theoretical and practical driving lessons, ensuring comprehensive learning without language barriers. This initiative not only promotes financial independence but also contributes to the social and economic development of the participants.
JOB Fair 2022
Our Job Fair, organized as part of the JIVICA initiative, serves as a pivotal event connecting job seekers with diverse employment opportunities aligned with industry needs. Held annually, this event showcases a wide array of job roles spanning various sectors such as EdTech and Telecom, offering salaries up to INR 25,000 per month. It provides a platform for over 400 candidates ranging from 10th pass to graduates to interact directly with recruiters from leading companies. Through this initiative, we aim to foster career advancement, economic empowerment, and inclusive growth within our community.
