MAYURI UPADHYA, Danseuse. Choreographer. Entrepreneur. Dreamer. Storyteller.

Mayuri is the Artistic Director and founder of Nritarutya, a one-of its kind dance company in India. She strives to create innovative, visceral and ethereal experiences that widen the perceptions of dance. Weaving innovation and tradition through dance and storytelling are the core of the practice at Nritarutya. Mayuri has carved a niche for her company in the creative world. Her descriptive, spatially demanding, thought provoking and heart-warming choreography have won her popular and critical acclaim. Her rhythmic artistry and ability to transform a simple thought into an experience make her one of the most sought-after choreographers from India today

Her personal journey is inspired by the vivid culture she was born into. Be it memories of her childhood, or astute realities around her, her creative influences are straight from her heart. She composes movement, color, costume, and culture together to take audiences on journeys that transcend their reality. Her ability to see extraordinary in the everyday, and simple in the complex create a refined and relevant form of dance for the evolving global citizens seeking a connect with their roots.

  • Curator of Dance at the Serendipity Arts Festival (2019)
  • Creative consultant and Concept Design for Dharma Productions latest movie Kalank, for the song ‘Ghar more pardesiya’ (2019)
  • Commissioned to create a concept and choreograph for a special song featuring Shri Amitabh Bachchan for Stories of Strength – a memorial event organised by The Indian Express Group
  • Designed a dance curriculum across grades 1-10, for Prestige Foundation’s art program Art Ed (2016-18)
  • Commissioned to conceptualize and choreograph for the “Make In India” event held at Hanover, Germany for the Honorable Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi (2015)
  • Conceptualized and choreographed a production “Katha Parva” as a part of Lakshadeepotsava, Dharmasthala Temple for the SDM trust. (2014), etc.
